Epoxy Floor Cleaning, Sealing & Maintenance

Epoxy floor coatings are a mix of polymer resins and hardeners that create a tough, smooth and shiny surface. The result is a durable coated floor that is wear and chemical resistant. Keep in mind scratching and damage may still occur so applying a sacrificial coating over the epoxy is a good idea to reduce repair costs if they are needed.
Clean Epoxy With C-A-T
CAT stands for Chemical, Agitation and Temperature. Choose the chemical that's suitable for your surface and soil. Select the right agitation method (eg. floor pad, brush) and temperature you will clean with.
Recommended Products For The 4 Types Of Epoxy Floor Maintenance
*Always test products first before use.
- Initial - Cleaning newly laid floors... Use Bobby Dazzler (pH neutral).
- Regular Maintenance - Use Bobby Dazzler (pH neutral). This is for everyday cleaning.
- Periodic Cleaning - Use Bonza or Clean, Grip & Shine. Periodic cleaning may occur monthly, quarterly or yearly.
- Restorative / Salvage - This is when things have gotten a little out of hand and the surface needs a reset! For restorative work on epoxy floors you may need to contact your epoxy installer as grinding and reapplication of the epoxy may be required.
Precautions
Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners where possible. When using heavy chemicals neutralise with Bobby Dazzler afterwards to avoid fast re-soiling or further damage.
Sealing Epoxy Floors
XO2 does not supply epoxy floor coatings. However, many professionals and facility cleaning departments choose to coat their epoxy floor with a water based sacrificial floor sealer. Epoxy floors still get damaged and scratched. Because repairing epoxy can be expensive a sacrificial coating over the epoxy is a good idea to reduce repair costs. The sacrificial coat is easy and cheap to repair as the sealer just needs to be mopped on and blends in with the existing sealer. For a low sheen, coat with Tough Shield and for a high gloss finish choose Blockbuster. 2 to 6 initial coats are recommended depending on the protection you want. Test first to ensure the suitability of the sealer on your epoxy floor.
