Floor Sealer Usage Calculator
How much floor sealer will you need?
1. Floor area to be sealed
Length × width for a rectangular room. Add multiple rooms together for a total area, and don't subtract for cabinetry or fixtures — a little extra buys you a safety margin. Pick a preset or type your own.
2. Number of coats
Penetrating sealers like Pro Seal Eco and Pro Seal Ultra typically need 1–3 coats. Sacrificial sealers like Blockbuster or Tough Shield are built up over 3–6 coats. When a base coat is required on indoor porous surfaces, Tough Shield can be used for the base coat/s. Check the product's application guide.
3. Spread rate (coverage)
Presets are drawn from common XO2 product spread rates. Always check the specific product's web page for the correct coverage rate — it varies by floor porosity, applicator, and coat number. Pick a preset or type your own.
Area and spread rate are in metric (m² / L). Bottle counts are always in 5 L bottles.
Application tips
- Strip, clean and dry the floor first — sealer applied over old finish, dirt, or moisture won't bond properly and can fail early.
- All XO2 floor sealers are ready to use — Blockbuster, Tough Shield, Pro Seal Ultra and Pro Seal Eco are all applied neat; do not dilute.
- Apply thin, even coats — thick coats take longer to dry, are more likely to bubble or streak, and use more product than needed.
- Let each coat fully dry before recoating — this varies by product (e.g. ~60 min for Tough Shield, ~30–45 min for Pro Seal Ultra); recoating too early can lift the previous coat.
- Use the right applicator — Go with the recommended flat mop, poly cotton mop, microfibre applicator, lambswool pad, paint roller or sprayer for the best finish.
- Buy a little extra — porosity, edges, cutting-in, and wastage mean real usage often runs 5–10% over the calculated amount.
Spread rates by XO2 product
Figures are per-coat spread rates from XO2 product specifications, not a recommendation. Always confirm the exact rate against the product's page or TDS — floor porosity, temperature, and applicator all affect real-world coverage.
